The period tracking feature allows you to log your period dates and easily see how your cycle compares with your symptoms on the Insights page. This enables you to advocate for your health and understand the relationship between your hormones and any chronic condition being managed.
Key benefits of tracking your cycle in Human
- Symptom Insights: By overlaying your period start dates on your symptom charts, you can visually spot patterns, such as symptom flare-ups (like headaches or fatigue) that reliably occur at the start of your period.
- Timeline Integration: Your periods appear as Important Events in your Timeline, giving you a comprehensive view of your health history in one place.
- Better Health Conversations: Easily share accurate data on your cycle and symptom patterns with your doctor, which is crucial for conditions like Endometriosis, PCOS, and hormonal migraines.
How to log a Period
Logging your period is quick and easy.
- Tap the '+' widget > Select 'Period'
- Use the calendar picker to select the Start Date of your period (this is the first day of bleeding). The start date is required.
- You have two options for the End Date:
- If your period has ended: Select the End Date now.
- If your period is still ongoing: Leave the End Date blank. You can easily edit and add it later once your period is over (see the section on editing below).
- Tap Save.
Tip: If you are logging a previous period, you can tap on a past date in the calendar and see faint red overlays indicating days you've already logged a period.
Using the menstrual cycle home widget
Once you've logged at least one period, you'll see a new Menstrual Cycle widget on your app homepage, just below the Quick Log Symptoms. This widget gives you an at-a-glance view of your current cycle status.
The widget displays one of two states:
If you are currently on your period:
The app assumes you are "on period" if a start date is logged and there is no end date, or if today falls between the logged start and end dates.
- Displays: "Period Day #" (e.g., "Period Day 3")
- Shows: Your previous cycle length in days, and the start date of your current period.
- Features: A small calendar view of the last 8 days, with period days highlighted in red.
- Action: Tap the widget to "Edit period dates" to update or add your end date.
If you are NOT currently on your period:
- Displays: "Cycle Day #" (e.g., "Cycle Day 14")
- Shows: Details of your last period (Date Range, Period Duration) and your previous Cycle Length.
- Action: Tap "Log period" to quickly log a new period starting today.
Viewing your cycle on the Insights page
The real power of this feature is in your charts.
The start date of your periods will appear as a 🩸 annotation on your symptom charts on the Insights page.
- The 🩸 annotation will only appear on the first day of your period.
- Use this to visualize connections between your cycle and symptom changes.
The Insights card will also show:
- Your Period Date Range (from start date)
- Your Period Length in days
- Your Previous Cycle Length in days
Editing and deleting a period entry
You can easily adjust your dates or remove an entry from the Timeline.
- Go to the Timeline tab.
- Find the card for your period entry.
- Tap on the card to open the pop-up menu.
- Here you will see the following actions:
- Edit: Re-opens the log form with the calendar pre-opened. Use this to set an end date for an ongoing period or correct a mistake.
